    Thats impressive!, it really is, but the sharper your blade the quicker and easier damage to the blade happens. I totally respect this but one slice through a squirrels process and its at its target sharp. Depending on the metal grade of course. Nice work!

      There is diminishing return on sharpening, for sure. I enjoy taking it to the extreme but in every day practice, I don’t strive for hair whittling. Just “very sharp.”

    Apex Overheating

  • @samthai818

    We call it a stove, the oven is the lower enclosed portion where we bake or roast in. We don't know what an eye of the oven is but in Maryland (South-Mason Dixon line), we would say the burner on stove. Hope that helps. Great information regarding the grit difference between white and the green. I don't ever recall any manufacturer ever clearly indicating the difference between the two!

    • @jdavis882
      @jdavis882 2 місяці тому

      Yep. A little. But make sure you’re not using too much. It shouldn’t be built up on the leather. Just worked into the leather and not a layer on top.

    😮9 edge leading and 8 edge trailing strokes raised a burr, that steel must be made of playdough, I don't know if I ever got to hair whittling sharp with a micro bevel, or had hair whittling sharp blade with a factory edge, I've stropped factory edges to hair whittling sharp, I'm not saying it can't be done but I don't think I ever got there.😮

    • @jdavis882
      @jdavis882 23 дні тому

      Nah it was just a thin edge. The actual apex was much more acute than the 40 ish degrees on the I was sharpening at. So it only took a few strokes to throw on a 40 degree micro bevel.

    So I’ve watched quite a few strip videos and no one has really answered this definitively, can you use compound on the smooth leather side or is that only meant to be used bare?

    The Spydie knife, regrind that bitch to 40° yo (in a Jessee Pinkman voice). Seriously, start making 30 or 40 your standard with a lean towards 40. It makes life simpler if you carry around a bunch of different knives and they all grind to one of two sizes. Is that weird 45° angle gonna make it better? No, it ain't. Regrind that bitch to 40° yo. And use a blue marker. ;-)

  • @BT2SS
    @BT2SS 5 місяців тому

    You’re not, not centered because one angle is more obtuse than the other….your angles can be exactly the same, there’s just more material on one side of center than the other. If one angle was more obtuse than the other, you would need to change your angle on one side. Like you said though, you just need to take off more material on the small side (while maintaining the same angle)

    I have this sharpener and cannot get an edge. I keep the angle consistent and have ZT, Spyderco, Emerson, Hoffner, and high quality German kitchen knives and cannot sharpen them anywhere near “sharp”… idkw, but am frustrated about it. You have done a great video and thank you. I’ll try your proprietary method.

    What is the difference between using the 40 Vs 30 angle? which makes a sharper edge ?

    • @jdavis882
      @jdavis882 6 місяців тому

      Edge angle doesn’t define sharpness. But it does affect ease of cutting. A more acute edge angle will glide through material easier than a more obtuse edge. Both 30 and 40 can be just as sharp as each other because sharpness is a function of how refined the apex is.

    What's really going on here? I have lectured but not like this. All of my drawing, charts, visual aids were either completed or in my mind is such a manner that I could draw it perfectly when lecture time came. A little homework by many UA-cam host could go a long way in educating their audience. This is not the way to conduct a tutorial. It's sloppy to say the least. He might have great in-site of his topic but it doesn't not come off that way to this viewer.

You know you can present good videos so get to it. Do a little prep and you will even feel better about expending that time in something worthwhile for all of us! Hello i just watched your video just want to ask is there any knife that has a design of off center edge or is it every knife is need to be centered?

    • @jdavis882
      @jdavis882 9 місяців тому

      It’s not about the design, but more about the skill of the person doing the initial sharpening. Some extremely cheap knives have perfect edges, and some very expensive knives have off center edges. It’s just the luck of the draw.
